Regulation of Private Investigators to be introduced

The Security Industry Authority SIA are to introduce a new system to regulate Private Investigation activities during 2014.

The aim of the new regulation is to ensure rigorous standards in this sector, respecting individual’s rights to privacy whilst protecting the public against any unscrupulous activity.

There will be a requirement for an SIA license if you conduct surveillance, inquiries or investigations.

The current system is not regulated therefore anyone can work as a Private Investigator regardless of experience.

It will become a criminal offence for anyone caught working as an unlicensed Private Investigator.

The SIA have yet to announce the date for the implementation of the Private Investigator license but its expected to be later this year.
