Two British tourists are shot in Barbados

Two passengers from the P&O cruise ship ‘The Adonia’ has been shot during a stop- over in Barbados.

The ordeal happened in broad daylight in a popular tourist area in Barbados’ capital Bridgetown.

The couple were said to be returning back to the Adonia which is half way through an 85 night cruise.

Shocked tourists jumped to their aid after hearing gun – shots and screams.

The man who is said to be in his 70s and the woman in her 50s.

The couple are said to be receiving treatment in hospital and their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The attacker stole the woman’s handbag and fled the scene before police arrived.

Reports have said there have been a spate of jewelry robberies that have been linked to ‘cash for gold’ on the island.

Attacks in Barbados are rare according to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

Approximately 250,000 tourists from Britain visit Barbados each year.

There are many celebrities that have homes on the island such as Gary Lineker, Cilla Black and Sir Cliff Richard.
