People urged to stay in doors after a Police Officer was Shot Dead in Clacton-On-Sea.

A gunman killed an off-duty Police Sergeant and injured another person in a shooting in Clacton-On-Sea in Essex.

The man who was killed is understood to have been in his 40s.

The incident happened just after 15.30 on Monday.

Essex Police said they were hunting a gunman after a double shooting in Redbridge Road, Clacton on Sea.

Armed Police are now looking for the gunman after one man was found dead and another with serious leg injuries.

Residents are being urged to remain indoors while armed officers locate the gunman.

Police Officers are maintaining a high-profile and visible presence in the community, supporting victims and witnesses alike.

Members of the public are urged to contact Police on 999 if they see the gunman who should not be approached.

Police said that the two victims were found inside the house after the alarm was raised.

Gary Sanderson, spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service, said: “Sadly on our arrival a man was pronounced dead at the scene and another person has been taken to hospital with minor injuries.”

Essex Police have received numerous phone calls from members of the public and officers were confident of catching the gunman.
