Police authorities have issued a warning for owners of unused buildings to secure them after two ‘suspicious’ fires in the past few days.

Friday 10th May a suspected arson attack occurred at a derelict Denbighshire seafront property.

An annexe and part of the ground floor of the building were destroyed during the blaze. The former Grange Hotel had previously been damaged in a fire in 2008.

Early on Thursday morning a further arson attack occurred at a former hospital in Flintshire. Fire fighters were called to the scene managing to confine the fire to the first floor.

Thankfully there were no injuries during either incident.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and North Wales Police are now working closely together to try and tackle this problem.

It is possible that these two particular incidents could have been caused by squatters.

It is common for squatters to take up residence in unoccupied houses in London in particular because rents are too high for them to afford to pay leaving them with no money to live on.

There are an estimated 100,000 incidents of squatters every year which in turn causes misery for hundreds of innocent home owners and businesses.

To remove squatters you have to serve the correct notices and then use normal court procedures. It is possible to do this yourself but can take two or three months.

It is far too easy to legally squat. Squatters know that they just get moved on without penalty and they are never stopped from doing it again.

Squatting has reported to have doubled since the recession and partly driven due to the rise in empty homes.

It has been a criminal offence to squat in Scotland since the 1860s. England and Wales are yet to be brought in line. Prevention is of course better than cure so stop squatters moving in the first place. Keep your property secure at all times, especially between tenants.

Empty property can benefit from Residential Security presence to keep it safe and secure.

Ironside Associates Ltd provide bespoke security recommendations according to clients needs.

Norwich City has made an apology for the way they dealt with a teenage fan who leaked pictures online of their new football kit before its official launch.

Chris Brown, a 17 year old IT student from Norwich, had leaked pictures of the clubs new football kit on a social networking site.

He had obtained the pictures from the clubs official launch website as it was being updated and then posted them on Twitter.

“I’m sorry for any offence I might have caused to the club, but I would never do anything malicious or spiteful because I do have an interest and love the football club” He said.

Chris is a season ticket holder for Norwich.

He said he was called by the club at 0430 Wednesday after posting the new kit on twitter and internet forums Tuesday night.

He said he was “shocked” that the club called him to ask him how he had obtained the pictures.

Norfolk Police released a statement to say they had investigated an offence of unauthorised access to computer data, under the Computer Misuse Act, after being contacted by the football club.

Chris apologised to the club saying he was deeply sorry and regretted his actions.

Following this, the club dropped the matter as they believed the fan had posted them due to ‘enthusiasm’ rather than ‘malicious intent’.

Stephen Fry one of Norwich city’s celebrity fans tweeted his summary of the events as “Storm. Teacup. Bless.”

The collection of items which are reported to be mainly Jade, are said to be worth million’s. Their exact value has not yet been released.

The incident occurred at around 19:30 on Friday 13th April.

Cambridge Police are investigating the incident said a group of people were involved in the break in.

CCTV and forensic examinations have been carried out at the scene.

Included in the stolen items were six pieces of Ming dynasty, including a jade 16th Century carved buffalo and a carved horse from the 17th century.

Detective Chief Superintendant Karen Daber is leading the investigation, named Operation Tundra.

The Home Office website was subject to hacking at the weekend. The attack restricted access to the Home Office site for several hours from 21:00 on Saturday.

It has been reported that it was a Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack. The UK Police and Justice Act 2006 specifically outlawed DoS attacks and the maximum penalty if found guilty is 10 years in prison.

A DoS attack floods a web server with so many requests that it cannot respond to anyone trying to access to it.

Visitors to the site were faced with a message that told them they were unavailable.

The Home Office website is public facing and no sensitive information is held on it.

A Home Office spokeswoman has said that there has been no indication that any other systems were affected.

New measures by the Home Office have been put in place to protect the website from any further attacks.

It has been alleged that Hacktivist group Anonymous were behind the hack which brought down the Home Office website.

In 2010 a group of ‘Hacktivists’ formed the group Anonymous.

The group had claimed earlier this week to have defaced an estimated 500 websites in China and have issued warnings of further online attacks.

Richard Barnfather and his partner Deborah Leadbetter live in 5-bed barn conversion in Pattingham, Shropshire.

The couple had been getting ready for bed just after 10pm on March 9th before the ordeal began.

Mr Barnfather had heard a noise outside his property he thought was a badger, but instead was confronted with 2 masked men. One of the men brandished a pistol.

A third man was kept at bay by the couples dog Tilly.

Mr Barnfather owns the countries largest independent wire manufacturer, Barnfather Wire Ltd.

He has put up a reward of £10,000 for further information, and his insurers have added another £4,000 to the total.

During the encounter he was punched by one of the assailants’ on both side of his head simultaneously. He was taken into the house to the bedroom where Miss Leadbetter was held. The couple feared they would be shot.

Miss Ledbetter’s head was slammed against a wall before their feet and hands were tied.

The gang made off separately in the couples cars. A silver Aston Martin DBS, a black Range Rover Vogue and a silver Mercedes SLK convertible.

The cars worth a combined £300,000 were later found in different locations 15 miles from the couple’s house.

£50,000 of jewelery was stolen which included a £25k diamond engagement ring, a ladies Cartier watch and a gentleman’s Breitling watch.

The couple managed to free themselves after the gang had escaped and raised the alarm.

Mr Barnfather said ‘we feared for our lives, these men are dangerous and must be caught’.

Miss Leadbetter is apparently so traumatized by the ordeal she has not been able to talk about it.

Three shotguns along with ammunition were seized from a Panamanian-registered ship.

The ship had docked into Milford Haven port, West Wales on Thursday 8th March.

The weapons were uncovered in a simple routine search by Border Force.

Border Force is part of the Home Office and is responsible for protecting the UK’s borders.

The ships crew told officers prior to the search that there were weapons on board. They had also admitted that the weapons were for self – defence during any potential pirate hijack.

The weapons and ammunition were then found and seized by the Border Force Officers.

Border Force Officers have a duty to make sure that any ships that enter UK waters comply with regulations around the transport of firearms and dangerous goods.

A license is required to bring firearms and ammunition into the UK. This has to be arranged with the border agency prior to entry into the UK.

Alex Lawther, assistant director of Border Force, Wales has warned that even if crews are carrying firearms for legitimate reasons they must declare them to Border force officers.

Border Force is holding the shotguns, subject to further investigations.

Steve Kean has hired a personal bodyguard to protect both himself and his family from recent threats that he has been receiving from disgruntled Blackburn Rovers fans.

Kean has taken advice to have security with him at all times in case of an attack to him or his family as pressure from fans prevents him going out locally.

Fans have been protesting since Kean replaced sacked Sam Allardyce in November 2010. Kean’s replacement of Sam Allardyce was initially meant to be on a temporary basis.

Further protests and threats have been fuelled by Rovers continual struggle at the bottom of the league table.

He has so far failed to win over the fans, with repeated protests and chants by fans during games for the manager to be sacked. Blackburn Rovers fans are also angry with the clubs Indian owners the Venky’s.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and Everton manager David Moyes have both commented on the behaviour of Blackburn Rovers fans in their quest to drive Steve Kean out of his job.
